THE WEEKLY EH?! // March 25th, 2024
The latest highlight of FIVE things happening in the Kimberley/Cranbrook area this week + FOUR other items of some locals' interests from out 'round highway 95, eh.
Hi!
Welcome to the 25/3/24 edition of ‘THE WEEKLY EH?!’ newsletter!
Here’s Five Things
Since The 95EH Events Calendar gets updated with Kimberley AND Cranbrook area events on the regular (and it’s FREE for anybody to get their local events listed, visit moun.town/events for the simple details), I find it worthwhile to do a weekly HIGHlight of FIVE things happening FOR the current week EVERY Monday, and, well… it’s Monday again, eh:
THING #1: There’s a special post-Valentines-ish night of finger-picked couples therapy happening over at Encore this Wednesday called ‘Significant Others’ — so “join The Parsons, The Eisenhauers & RedGirl for a lovely evening of laid-back picking, lovely harmonies & storytelling - a night you’re not going to want to miss”. Admission is free, but you’d be wise to call ahead to see if you can reserve a table!
And if you can’t get a table at Encore but are still looking for some live music on this 27th of March, there’s another batch of The Fisher Peak Winter Ale Concert Series being cracked open over at Key City Theatre with The Lovebullies and Fraser & Gabrielle.
THING #2: But there’s more than just the plucking of stringed instruments going on around here, and starting this Friday, March 29th, a new bi-weekly DJ event called Frequency Fridays will be kicking off over at Bohemian Spirits (“where spirits meet beats; featuring local DJs and various EDM music; finally a consistent place to go on the weekend to get your dance vibes on”).
THING #3: But the eclectic options don’t end there, as over at Key City Theatre this Friday is “a cinematic visionary art concert with roots in guided meditation and psychedelic experience — merging the essence of meditative sound journeys, music concerts, cinematic films, and mesmerizing psychedelic visuals, this concert is a multimedia symphony that elicits nourishing relaxation, wonder, and euphoria” called ‘Metta Grove’ with multimedia artist Simon Haiduk. Check out the trailer below for a visual explanation of the description above:
THING #4: And this Saturday (March 30th) you can get all your dub itches scratched with DJ DUBCONSCIOUS + 4:44 – QUOTES + THE DUBSIDE COLLECTIVE over at The Marysville Pub.
And over at the Cranbrook Curling Centre, even more DJs will be spinning this week at BE THE VYBE — “We have headlining act Kytami & Phonik Ops, Co-Headliner Kimati, with supporting sets from Maticulous & Cosmic Engagement. This live music & visual experience will help guide you onwards & upwards along your personal journey. So please join us & our tribe for those proper funky phresssh vybes.”
THING #5: Finally, up on the ski hill, this Saturday, March 30th, is a little thing known as North Star Days — “Break out the old-school, retro, vintage (whatever you want to call it) ski gear and head on up to Kimberley Alpine Resort to celebrate the good-ol-days of spring! Party down with live music in the plaza with Mile High Club at 3pm, beer gardens, moguls comp, turnin banked slalom, best-dressed dog, kids activities, prizes for big hair, best dressed, goggle tans, and much more!”
Of course, there's always more than Five Things happening in any given week, so don't forget you can punch “moun.town/events” into any browser window at any time and be magically taken away to THE 95EH EVENTS CALENDAR… where you can find the full gamut of Kimberley/Cranbrook area events happening this week & beyond (because there’s always way more going on than I can mention here, with new events added on the regular, especially when people/businesses remember to create Facebook events for their events so I can get things added to the calendar in a timely fashion)!
+ Four Ehs
And because there’s always more going on than just the local area events that get added to The 95EH Events Calendar, here are 4 other things that are proving to be top of mind for at least one local area person:
EH #1: The Kimberley Business Excellence Awards took place last week and the winners have been revealed on this latest Chamber social post for those who did not attend the event (or I’ve listed the winners below for those who don’t want to jump over to a FB post but are still curious to see who won):
Rising Star Award: Deer Park Diner
Stan Salikin Community Impact Award: Meant 2B Loved Pet Rescue
The Health, Wellness & Fitness Award: Sprout Health Market
Home & Mobile Business of the Year Award: Travelling Top-ups Mobile Refillery
Business Services Award: Nicole Leclair Photography
Creativity Award: Funk Haus Craft Lab
Retail Services Award: Sprout Health Market
Employee of the Year Award: Johnny from The Shed
Inclusivity Award: Grow - Cake & Chocolate
Trades Business or Person of the Year Award: Sommer Electric
The Keystone Award: Pedal & Tap
Business of the Year Award: Kamu Sauna
Tourism & Hospitality Excellence Award: Our Place Restaurant
Shop Pet of the Year Award: Jasper at Purcell Outdoors
Unfortunately, 95EH was not excellent enough at bizness in 2023 to have been nominated. And it seems 2024 is off to a slow bizdev start as well (ie. I haven’t really been dev’n the biz too much during Q1). However, I did win a 50-inch flat-screen TV at The Sully back in 2020, so maybe we all win in our own different ways/times, eh?
EH #2: In the chaos of all the DJ events that are happening this week, I (almost) forgot to mention that there will be a Cranbrook Farmer’s Market happening at Kinsmen Arena this Saturday, March 30th (“an eggstra special Easter Market” in fact). And in case I (almost) forget in April, there’ll be another Farmer’s Market happening at the Kinsmen Arena on April 20th.
EH #3: Related to me almost forgetting to mention that there’s a Farmer’s Market happening this Saturday in Cranbrook, I would just like to remind everyone that all somebody needs to do to get their event/s freely added to The 95EH Events Calendar is create a free public Facebook event OR freely use the ‘Submit Event’ button that can be found on the calendar at moun.town/events (which then better puts their event/s on my radar when I sit down EVERY Monday to try and highlight what’s going on in the area, as I use The 95EH Events Calendar as my main reference point). So, if you are putting on events in the area, or you know people and/or organizations that are putting on events in the area, please pass on this message (as this will help make it more possible for us all to have an even handier place where anyone can easily find out all the happenings happening in the local area in one place… that place being moun.town/events) 👍
EH #4: On a related note, if you or a local business/organization have an events calendar on your own website and that is the only place you post about events (ie. you don’t also make public Facebook events), if your event calendar offers the functionality for someone to ‘Add to Calendar’ (ie. add the event info to a person’s Google Calendar or iCal), that is another option that I can explore for getting your events added to The 95EH Events Calendar (but it’ll help if I am at least made aware of the events). So please reach out to ‘hey@95eh.ca’ or DM me on the 95EH socials if you fall into this category (ie. people who post their event details on their own website’s event calendar and those events also come with an ‘Add to Calendar’ option — the screenshot below is an example of an event listing on Cranbrook History Centre that I can add to The 95EH Events Calendar process even though CHC has not made a public FB post or submitted an event directly at moun.town/events).
Because having one events calendar that shows everything happening in the Kimberley AND Cranbrook area, all in one convenient place, can be a benefit for everyone who is putting on events and/or looking for events to attend… but it only works if we’re all making it easier to find local event info (and The 95EH Events Calendar is designed around trying to make this process easier, but it does require some co-operation/collaboration).
As a fellow Jerry once said:
And that’ll be that from me for this week!
Of course, there’s always more ‘eh?!’ to share than the 4 EHs that came to my mind while putting together this week’s newsletter, so please make sure to follow/frequent 95EH on the Facebook & Instagram & Tumblr (as I share “ehs” on the daily). And for more Jeremy/HI54-specific stuff, you can also follow @HI54LOFI on the Instagram & Twitter & Facebook.
Because, hey… there’s a lot of stuff going on out there, eh?!
And until next week…
Please feel free to reach out to ‘hey@95eh.ca’ if you have any questions, comments, ideas and/or schemes — AND — if you think you know anybody else that might enjoy receiving this weekly newsletter about “some locals’ interests” in the highway 95/a area, please feel warmly encouraged to send them a link so they can have a think about signing up too (it’s free to sign-up & receive the newsletter, but there’s a paid version available that offers all the same things of the free version if anybody fancies supporting the work that goes into putting all this stuff together)!
And I’ll see you out on the URLs and/or IRLs… whichever comes first 🤘
🍻
