THE WEEKLY EH?! // March 18th, 2024
The latest highlight of FIVE things happening in the Kimberley/Cranbrook area this week + FOUR other items of some locals' interests from out 'round highway 95, eh.
Hi!
Welcome to the 18/3/24 edition of ‘THE WEEKLY EH?!’ newsletter!
Here’s Five Things
Since The 95EH Events Calendar gets updated with Kimberley AND Cranbrook area events on the regular (and it’s FREE for anybody to get their local events listed, visit moun.town/events for the simple details), I find it helpful to do a weekly HIGHlight of FIVE things happening FOR the current week EVERY Monday, and, well… it’s Monday again, eh:
THING #1: Back by popular demand, Simon Horton from Avalanche Canada will be at Grist & Mash on Tuesday, March 19th to give an educational discussion on avalanche conditions + an update on the Kimberley area snowpack (starts around 7 pm).
THING #2: The second public lecture in College Of The Rockies’ 3-part Museia series (offered in partnership with the Cranbrook Public Library) is happening on Thursday, March 21st at 6:30 pm — this time around the topic will be “The Death of God and Modern Life” (featuring Vance Mattson, Philosophy and Sociology instructor in the Department of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at COTR). It’s a FREE event, but online registration is requested, so CLICK HERE for more details!
THING #3: The Academy Awards may have come & gone down in Hollywood, but up here in our neck of the woods the red carpet does not get rolled out for the Kimberley Chamber’s Oscars-inspired Business Excellence Awards until this Friday, March 22nd (doors open at 6 pm, awards ceremony starts at 7 pm)… so you still have a chance to snag some tickets to see who brings home the local bizness hardware for 2023 live and in-person (as well as mingle & connect with other local doers at a reception featuring a silent auction, raffle prizes, hors d'oeuvres, live music, a bar, and more) — CLICK OVER HERE to check for tickets!
THING #4: There’s a double-whammy back-to-back’r happening at Kimberley Elks this Friday AND Saturday with a screening of a ski-comedy flick called ‘Weak Layers’ happening at 5:30 pm (all ages, both nights), followed by an after party with Matt Blais (19+, both nights).
You can get your tickets for either or both events/nights over on Black Market Baking’s website and you can check the trailer for the film below (also worth noting that all funds raised go towards Kimberley Alpine Team):
THING #5: Speaking of things that relate specifically to ski town life, up at the ski hill this Saturday (March 23rd, starting at 11 am) The Choice Shop + Kimberley Alpine Resort are putting on a “Picnic in the Park Jam Session” and inviting all those with the right kind of skillz to come throw down their best tricks at the KAR Rail Park (“All ages welcome! Ski & Snowboard! Tons of awesome PRIZES!”) 🤙
Of course, there's always more than Five Things happening in any given week, so don't forget you can punch “moun.town/events” into any browser window at any time and be magically taken away to THE 95EH EVENTS CALENDAR… where you can find the full gamut of Kimberley/Cranbrook area events happening this week & beyond (because there’s always way more going on than I can mention here, with new events added on the regular, especially when people/businesses remember to create Facebook events for their events so I can get things added to the calendar in a timely fashion)!
+ Four Ehs
And because there’s always more going on than just the local area events that get added to The 95EH Events Calendar, here are 4 other things that are proving to be top of mind for at least one local area person:
EH #1: Kimberley Trail Society announced last week that Velosolutions has been awarded the contract for the Pump Track build at Kimberley Bike Park, and construction is set to begin this Spring/Summer!
“With Velosolutions at the helm, we're confident that the Pump Track will exceed our expectations and become an incredible addition to our community! Their track record of excellence and innovation in building world-class bike facilities speaks for itself.” Read more on KTS’s FB post.
EH #2: There’s a garage sale happening at Kimberley Public Library this Wednesday, March 20th — it starts at 10 am, it’s “first come, first served”, all purchases are by donation to KPL, and you can check out their Facebook post to look at some pictures of some of the larger items that will be available (but there will also be a bunch of small items available in person).
EH #3: There’s a new exhibit about the art of painting the great outdoors coming to Art Gallery Kimberley from March 21st - 31st entitled "In the Mountains - En Plein Air - Retrospective!” from local area artist Anne Aitken Anderson (with an opening reception being held on Saturday, March 23rd from 3 pm - 5 pm) — “The idea of Anne’s exhibit emerged from a trip to International Basin for the Alpine Club of Canada artist week where Anne joined a group of artists and hiked in the Northern Purcells. The group painted together for five days straight. The weather was fantastic, the wildflowers were spectacular, and the food was amazing.”
EH #4: Cranbrook Farmer’s Market recently shared some interesting and encouraging statistics from the 2023 BC Farmers’ Market Economic Impact Study and you can check out the infographic below for some of the highlights or jump over to their FB post for even more information & infographics (and then don’t forget to mark your calendar for their indoor Easter market happening NEXT Saturday on March 30th at the Kinsmen Arena)!
And that’ll be that from me for this week!
Of course, there’s always more ‘eh?!’ to share than the 4 EHs that came to my mind while putting together this week’s newsletter, so please make sure to follow/frequent 95EH on the Facebook & Instagram & Tumblr (as I share “ehs” on the daily). And for more Jeremy/HI54-specific stuff, you can also follow @HI54LOFI on the Instagram & Twitter & Facebook.
Because, hey… there’s a lot of stuff going on out there, eh?!
And until next week…
Please feel free to reach out to ‘hey@95eh.ca’ if you have any questions, comments, ideas and/or schemes — AND — if you think you know anybody else that might enjoy receiving this weekly newsletter about “some locals’ interests” in the highway 95/a area, please feel warmly encouraged to send them a link so they can have a think about signing up too (it’s free to sign-up & receive the newsletter, but there’s a paid version available that offers all the same things of the free version if anybody fancies supporting the work that goes into putting all this stuff together)!
And I’ll see you out on the URLs and/or IRLs… whichever comes first 🤘
🍻
