THE WEEKLY EH?! // April 22nd, 2024
The latest highlight of FIVE things happening in the Kimberley/Cranbrook area this week + FOUR other items of some locals' interests from out 'round highway 95, eh.
Hi!
Welcome to the 22/4/24 edition of ‘THE WEEKLY EH?!’ newsletter!
Here’s Five Things
Since The 95EH Events Calendar gets updated with Kimberley AND Cranbrook area events on the regular (although, as mentioned previously, I am going to stop updating/running The 95EH Events Calendar at the end of April), I’ve got into the habit of doing a weekly HIGHlight of FIVE things happening FOR the current week EVERY Monday, and, well… it’s Monday again, eh:
THING #1: This Wednesday, April 24th there’s an Ed Talk on ‘Physical Literacy in our Community’ with Sandi Lavery and Janelle Downey from ACTIVE CRANBROOK happening at Royal Alexandra Hall (“join us for a presentation, discussion, coffee, and tea”) — jump over to Cranbrook History Centre to register for free!
THING #2: Encore Brewing Co. is throwing a ‘Sparkle Party’ to celebrate their first birthday and Pretty for the People will be providing the live music for the festivities (which includes the launch of a brand new anniversary Kolsch, appropriately titled “SPARKLE PARTY”)! 🎉
THING #3: There’s an ‘All Female DJs’ night happening at Bohemian Spirits this Friday, April 26th (“Come vibe with powerful female DJs NINJETTE, OHM GIRL, ESPRESSIVA, 11 WOLVES and MAMA DRE at Goddess Grooves - it's gonna be lit!”) — check for tickets HERE:
And if that doesn’t satisfy your needs for bass n’ beats, the following night (aka: Saturday, April 27th) violinist Kytami and dj/producer Phonik Ops will be performing at Stonefire (“This drum and bass group will blow your mind. Don’t miss one of the best events this spring. $10 tickets at the door. First come first serve!”)!
THING #4: This Saturday also sees the return of Divas, Diamonds & Dames (the 6th annual, to be exact) at Centennial Hall — “This is a fantastic night out with your girlfriends, let's get dressed up and have a party!!! All funds raised from our fashion show will go to the Kimberley Health Care Auxiliary Thrift Shop, the rest of the funds raised will go to the Mark Creek Lions!” Tickets are available at Two J’s Cafe and The Bean Tree… and word on the internet streets is that there may not be too many tickets left.
And over in Cranbrook, this Saturday sees the return of The Rotary Club of Cranbrook’s ‘Heart of the Community Gala & Auction’ (the 4th annual, to be exact) at the Colombo Lodge— “This year, we invite you to immerse yourself in the allure of the 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐞, an evening where glamour meets philanthropy. The evening will not only tantalize your taste buds but also entertain you with a live and silent auction and live music by The Testers that promises to keep you dancing late into the night.”
THING #5: And speaking of things returning, this Saturday sees the grand re-opening of the Cranbrook Memorial Arena with a free public event from 3 pm to 10 pm featuring food trucks, a beer garden, and live music — “The City is planning a formal event to recognize the contributions of more than twenty dedicated contractors and commercial businesses that supported the massive effort to save the Memorial Arena and have it reopened for the public and for users.”
Of course, there's always more than Five Things happening in any given week, so don't forget you can punch “moun.town/events” into any browser window and be magically taken away to THE 95EH EVENTS CALENDAR — where you can find the full gamut of Kimberley/Cranbrook area events happening this week & beyond (well, at least until the end of April 2024, after which I will no longer be updating/running this free local events calendar, as I believe it’s time for me to start stepping away from whatever I’ve been failing to try and make happen with all of this 95EH stuff that I’ve been publicly messing about with unsuccessfully/unsustainably for the last 8 years-ish, eh) 👍
+ Four More Ehs
And because there’s always more going on than just the local area events that get added to The 95EH Events Calendar (or what I can share above), here are 4 other things that are going on around the local neighbourhood this week:
EH #1: Mark your book-loving calendars, because April 27th is Canadian Independent Bookstore Day (an “annual day when readers, writers, illustrators, publishers, and others come together to celebrate indie bookstores across Canada”) and local independent bookstore Huckleberry Books will be celebrating on the day — “We are a part of the strong network of small local bookstores that make a big difference in creating community and inspiring culture and connection. We invite you to join us in all the hoopla with treats, activities, giveaways, and an all-day pajama party.”
EH #2: If ‘bookstore day’ isn’t quite your speed, how about celebrating ‘Turtle Day’ at Elizabeth Lake on Tuesday, April 23rd instead — “Western-painted turtle hatchlings begin to emerge from their nests each April and make their way to the lake. See the newly emerged hatchlings and learn about their journey, as well as the efforts of the Rocky Mountain Naturalists to protect this Blue-listed, vulnerable species.” This free, family event runs from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm and kicks off with an opening welcome by ʔaq'am Nasuʔkin Joe Pierre. 🐢
EH #3: Speaking of free events that’ll get you outside and experiencing seasonal transformations, Kimberley Nature Park is hosting a guided ‘Spring Flowers on Sunflower Hill’ walk this Sunday, April 28th from 10 am to 12 pm that’ll have you on the lookout for emerging wildflowers (“meet at the campground entrance at 10 am”).
EH #4: And speaking of ways to expand your local area knowledge this Spring, the Kimberley Ambassador Program (“a bi-yearly program aiming to help front-line workers and residents of Kimberley effectively represent our amazing city” brought to you by the Kimberley and District Chamber of Commerce, College of the Rockies and Tourism Kimberley) is back for another session on Saturday, April 27th — get yourself registered OVER HERE if interested!
And that’ll be that from me for this week!
Of course, there’s always more ‘eh?!’ to share than the 4 EHs that came to my mind while putting together this week’s newsletter, so please make sure to follow/frequent 95EH on the Facebook & Instagram & Tumblr.
And for more Jeremy/HI54-specific stuff, you can also follow @HI54LOFI on the Instagram & Twitter & Facebook (although I haven’t been posting much to any of the above accounts recently, as I’ve been feeling the pull to spend less & less time on the ol’ socials lately, and that feeling feels like something I plan on continuing with, especially once I stop updating/running The 95EH Events Calendar on April 28th, 2024).
Because, hey… there’s a lot of stuff going on out there, eh?!
And until next week…
Please feel free to reach out to ‘hey@95eh.ca’ if you have any questions, comments, ideas and/or schemes — AND — if you think you know anybody else that might enjoy receiving this newsletter about “some locals’ interests” in the highway 95/a area, please feel warmly encouraged to send them a link so they can have a think about signing up too (it’s free to sign-up & receive the newsletter, but there’s a paid version available that offers all the same things of the free version if anybody fancies supporting the work that goes into putting all this stuff together… but also keep in mind that I’m likely shutting this newsletter operation down when I stop updating The 95EH Events Calendar at the end of April 2024, especially if the subscription numbers don’t justify the effort that goes into putting things together)!
And I’ll see you out on the URLs and/or IRLs… whichever comes first 🤘
🍻
