THE WEEKLY EH?! // April 15th, 2024
The latest highlight of FIVE things happening in the Kimberley/Cranbrook area this week + FOUR other items of some locals' interests from out 'round highway 95, eh.
Hi!
Welcome to the 15/4/24 edition of ‘THE WEEKLY EH?!’ newsletter!
Here’s Five Things
Since The 95EH Events Calendar gets updated with Kimberley AND Cranbrook area events on the regular (although, as mentioned previously, I am going to stop updating/running The 95EH Events Calendar at the end of April), I’ve figured it might be useful to do a weekly HIGHlight of FIVE things happening FOR the current week EVERY Monday, and, well… it’s Monday again, eh:
THING #1: This Wednesday, husband & wife duo + recent Kimberley transplants The Eisenhauers will be hitting the Centre 64 stage with local singer-songer-mortgage-broker Oliver McQuaid (“The marvelously accomplished husband and wife folk duo moved into our beautiful town just two years ago. With performances at festivals such as Salmon Arm Roots & Blues and Kaslo Jazz Fest, it's time we heard their harmonies live in person at Centre 64”) — check out the video below for a taste of the lovely harmonies that’ll be on offer and then check this link to see if any tickets are still available (and then maybe also check this link if you’d like to help kickstart The Eisenhauers next album):
But don’t fret if you’d be more inclined to experience a musical humpday in Cranbrook instead, because Jenny Allen will be performing at the final Fisher Peak Winter Ale Concert Series show of 2024 over at Key City Theatre (with David Prinn opening):
THING #2: If the gorgeous sunny weather of the last few days hasn’t been a sure-fire sign that the seasons are a-changin’… then how about for the second week in a row there’s a local bike swap taking place?! This time the 2-wheeled swap fest is happening in Cranbrook at Northstar Bicycle (in partnership with JCI Kootenay) — click the link for the details (but the gist is: the Bike drop-off times are 6am to 8am on April 19th and 9am to 11am on April 20th, and then the bike shopping/swapping takes places on April 20th from 12pm to 3pm):
THING #3: Speaking of events that remind one that the sun is just around the corner, the 2024 World Tour Paddling Film Festival is coming to Kimberley this Saturday, April 20th at Centre 64! Get tickets from Kimberley Paddling Film Festival or at Just Liquid Sports in Cranbrook or Arrow and Axe in Kimberley (and watch the trailer below for a taste or jump over to Paddling Film Festival’s website to check out some of the 2024 films):
THING #4: If Wednesday’s offering of live music was not enough to wet your whistle, this Saturday sees Seatle’s Forest Ray coming to town to play the pine box stage at Grist & Mash:
And over at Art Gallery Kimberley for the opening reception of Jenny Rae Bateman’s equine photography art exhibit "Unbridled Connection", Qualicum Beach’s wiL&Co will be putting on a show of the music-making variety:
THING #5: Finally (although, as you will see further below, there’s still more things happening this week), this Sunday, at Grist & Mash, Kimberley-raised author Nadine Sander-Green returns to her hometown to launch debut novel "Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit" (hosted by another Kimberley wordsmith, Bruce Kirkby) — free event, but might be wise to reserve yourself a place here:
Of course, there's always more than Five Things happening in any given week, so don't forget you can punch “moun.town/events” into any browser window and be magically taken away to THE 95EH EVENTS CALENDAR — where you can find the full gamut of Kimberley/Cranbrook area events happening this week & beyond (well, at least until the end of April 2024, after which I will no longer be updating/running this free local events calendar, as I believe it’s time for me to start stepping away from whatever I’ve been failing to try and make happen with all of this 95EH stuff that I’ve been publicly messing about with unsuccessfully/unsustainably for the last almost 8 years, eh) 👍
+ Four More Ehs
And because there’s always more going on than just the local area events that get added to The 95EH Events Calendar (or what I can share above), here are 4 other things that are going on around the local neighbourhood this week:
EH #1: This Tuesday, April 16th there’s a (RE)Discover Kimberley event happening at Centennial Hall from 5pm to 8pm where you can (re)familiarize yourself with a whole bunch of community groups doing good stuff in the community (as well as see the draft Parks and Facilities Master Plan) — “over 30 organizations have registered and are ready to tell you about the programs and services they offer Kimberley residents”!
EH #2: The Kimberley Dynamiters are hosting the Mowat Cup at Kimberley Civic Centre from April 18th to April 21st (see schedule here) — which means there’s going to be 8 games of hockey being played over 4 days (and the Dynamiters will be playing in 5 of them)!
EH #3: Cranbrook Farmer’s Market is putting on a Spring Market this Saturday, April 20th from 10am to 1pm at the Kinsmen Arena (featuring live music from Ivan Palomeres), which is the last indoor market before the outdoor farmer’s markets in Cranbrook start up on May 11th — another example of how the seasons are a-changin’!
EH #4: Final finally, this week is Earth Week (with Earth Day officially falling on April 22nd) and Wildsight is organizing a Co-Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 20th (10am to 1pm, Kimberley Location: Centennial Centre; Cranbrook Location: Western Financial Place) — “We’re calling on community residents, schools, and organizations to come together and rejuvenate local neighbourhoods, green spaces, and urban engagement areas. This all-ages event is a fantastic opportunity to get outdoors, team up with family and friends, and do your part to give Cranbrook and Kimberley a spring clean.”
And that’ll be that from me for this week!
Of course, there’s always more ‘eh?!’ to share than the 4 EHs that came to my mind while putting together this week’s newsletter, so please make sure to follow/frequent 95EH on the Facebook & Instagram & Tumblr. And for more Jeremy/HI54-specific stuff, you can also follow @HI54LOFI on the Instagram & Twitter & Facebook (although I haven’t been posting much recently to any of my accounts, as I’ve been feeling the pull to move towards spending less & less time on the ol’ socials lately, and that feeling feels like something I plan on continuing with).
Because, hey… there’s a lot of stuff going on out there, eh?!
And until next week…
Please feel free to reach out to ‘hey@95eh.ca’ if you have any questions, comments, ideas and/or schemes — AND — if you think you know anybody else that might enjoy receiving this weekly newsletter about “some locals’ interests” in the highway 95/a area, please feel warmly encouraged to send them a link so they can have a think about signing up too (it’s free to sign-up & receive the newsletter, but there’s a paid version available that offers all the same things of the free version if anybody fancies supporting the work that goes into putting all this stuff together… but also keep in mind that I’m likely shutting this operation down when I stop updating The 95EH Events Calendar at the end of April 2024)!
And I’ll see you out on the URLs and/or IRLs… whichever comes first 🤘
🍻
