THE MONTHLY EH?! - MAY/JUNE 2025
A short update to say that I'm pushing the pause button on the 'monthly-ness' of this newsletter until... I un-push it again, I guess.
Much like how I recently mentioned that I would be taking a break from logging into the 95EH socials for an extended period of indefinite time, I am also going to take a break from putting together a monthly newsletter for the next little while — as I need to focus more on “billable work” + on other “non profitable work” that I am involved/interested in (as there is only so much time/energy in a day/week/month, eh… especially if one has gotten themselves involved in more than one garden this growing season, as I have most definitely done).
I also have some thoughts around attempting a different approach to the work that I have attempted to do throughout the years with this MOUNTOWN SIGNALS newsletter, and 95EH.CA, and the 95EH Facebook & Instagram, and HI54.BLOG, and MOUN.TOWN/EVENTS, and MOUN.TOWN/RADIO, and all the other interconnected ETCs I’ve messed about with — a different approach that might involve an idea called ‘The Chamber of “Non Profitable” Interests’, which would require its own figuring out — but in order to ever attempt to iron out any/all of that thinking, I first need to take a break from continuing to plow ahead with my current approaches, otherwise there’s just no time/energy left for making changes (which is all just part of the ongoing process when your process tends to be “What’s the best version of this subjectively ‘good idea’ that actually happens?” sung in the key of DIY).
I’ll aim for giving another update via this newsletter some time around July, but if you would like evidence that I am still alive before then, you could always try the following options:
I am the Vice President of the KEGG community garden in Kimberley, BC (don’t get too impressed by the official sounding title, the “VP” also stands for “Volunteer Position”), so if you wanted to follow along with what the KEGG community garden gets up to this year, I am often the person who updates the KEGG Instagram and Facebook and the KEGG.CA blog (ps - according to my most recent accounting, it would seem that the Kimberley Seed Library, a community-minded initiative that KEGG has been a part of refreshing this year, has now helped freely distribute over 600+ donated seed packets into the local growing community since March 20th).
I am kitten-sitten for a friend this week, so there is a chance that I may post a cat pic or two over on my HI54LOFI account (and maybe 95EH as well) — but if I don’t get around to it, here are some newsletter exclusive photos of one-eyed Maple and the two AB kittens, Cleo & Homer/Bear (aka: “little bear”), that we brought back to BC from my parent’s farm last fall:
Ok, that’ll be it from me for this month… and since I didn’t get this ‘monthly’ newsletter sent out before May became June, by “this month” I mean that’ll be it from me for both May and June (at least as far as this Substack newsletter goes) — so go Oilers go, shoutout Indiana & OKC as the basketball finals (both teams feature good Canadian players, including this year’s MVP, fyi), and I hope everyone who happens to be reading this sentence is having a nice spring with plans for that niceness to keep growing into the summer!
Cheers 🍻
