Happy 9/5 Day (in the USA), Eh?!
As I have often had to tell the missus from time to time… I do not have any weird obsessions with the numbers 95 and 54 (I promise/swear)!
However, when you end up attempting to run two different (but interconnected) projects that have the numbers 95 (ie. 95eh.ca, 95EHdotCA) and 54 (ie. hi54.blog, hi54lofi) in them, you naturally end up seeing those numbers in more places than might seem normal for anyone who doesn’t happen to also have numbers included in their personal “branding” (🤮).
And because of my particular 95/54 condition, many moons ago I stumbled upon the realization that “the 9th of May” is written as “9/5” in Canada —AND— “Happy 9/5 Day, Eh?!” has an objectively nice ring to it (especially for those attempting to create content for an idea called “95EH”). But, as 9/11 has made sure I never forget, Americans like to write their dates out with the month first AND THEN the day! What a very American thing to do, eh?
ANYWAYS, that’s how I also ended up getting the 5th of September stuck in my head as a “Happy 9/5 Day (in the USA), Eh?!” —AND— that’s partly how we got here to me dusting off this newsletter today and sending out a timely “Happy 9/5 Day (in the USA), Eh?!” greeting to you and yours:
And since my stumbling into an online job “training” AI back in March 2024 was one of the reasons I put this (previously weekly) newsletter on an indefinite pause back in May 2024, I figured I would get an AI chatbot to help create the above fake greeting card for this North American holiday that doesn’t officially exist (yet) — which also gives me a picture that I can then post to the 95EH Instagram and Facebook later today (#highfivefor multi-tasking) 👍
On this day of 9/5 …
The thing is, I often like to use these ‘9/5 days’ (the September one and/or the May one… not to mention a 5/4 day in April that I won’t even get into right now) as a way for me to check in on my ongoing thinking-out-loud projects, to see if there is any pivot or status update I could attempt to roll-out or communicate. Perhaps it’s the procrastinator in me, but there’s just something nice about having specific dates on the calendar that you can use as signposts or “you have to have this finished and/or your mind made up by this day” deadlines. Yearly reminders that don’t already come with built-in baggage like birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries (of which me and the missus just quietly celebrated our common-law 20th).
Oftentimes, I don’t really have much to announce on these 9/5 days (or the time available to try and figure out how to say it right) and, tbh, this 9/5 day isn’t too much different. All I can say for now is that I am currently in the process of running a DIY blogging exploratory committee of my own making during this upcoming “local area election season” (ie. Kimberley By-Election in September + BC Provincial Election in October + I can’t even right now with America in November) to see if there's a version of 95EH.CA and MOUN.TOWN (and this newsletter & etc) that makes sense for me to try and make time to do going forward (ie. given the realities of attempting to do such work & still get by in the late-stage capitalist world we all currently have to be in, but not of).
More recently, this exploration has got me tinkering with a poor man’s version of The 95EH Events Calendar, attempting to start up a MEET A LOCAL CANDIDATE Q&A series for the upcoming civic & provincial elections, dusting off my old Mix Tape Radio player, AND… thinking of bringing some version of this newsletter back on a bi-weekly basis (among other thoughts). All while trying to be extra mindful & realistic about the amount of time/energy that I will need to keep available for doing work that actually earns me the required tokens for acquiring my basic needs in the current market (among other commitments).
Thankfully, my new-ish AI Trainer job can be done from home whenever I choose + it comes with an American dollar bonus every time I transfer payouts to my Canadian bank account, which is a much nicer #realworld side-cushion that I did not consistently have during my last many handfuls of blahg’n years (although I’m not sure how dependable the AI Trainer job will be longterm, as the available work fluctuates and the hours are never guaranteed).
But I’ll leave things there for now, as I’m still trying to figure out what an attainable weekly/monthly ‘content ambition’ might look like for me this time around (and I only know how to make things up as I go), SO… let’s close things off here with another hearty “Happy 9/5 Day (in the USA), Eh?!” to all… and I’ll holler at y’all (from this Substack channel) again at least one more time this month (ie. “bi-weekly-ish”) 🤙
Cheers 🍻
